Dr. Wiljer completed his PhD at University of Toronto, Centre for Medieval Studies. His work focused on ethics and culture in understanding the drivers for community and social change. His work explored the role of literacy and notions of the self and conscience in promoting personal and organizational change.
As an Associate Director for ELLISCR, he leads research and development projects that optimize patient empowerment, the patient experience and engagement through novel technologies and collaborations. This work focuses on putting knowledge into action by utilizing health information technologies and knowledge management approaches to promote learning and organization change. With a particular focus on access to personal health information, and tailored and targeted education, he has been an investigator on many grants and research initiatives including patient portals for providing patients with access to their health records and social networking approaches to promote self-management and self-care. Â He also has an interest in developing new strategies for evaluating the impact of new technologies on the health of individuals, organizations, communities and systems.
