Nutrition

  • Applesauce, bananas, and soluble fibre. Apples and bananas are popular foods in low fibre and low residue diets because overall fibre content is low. But did you know that a type of fibre they contain can improve bowel function? It's soluble fibre. Soluble fibre soaks up the extra water in the digestive tract forming a gel. This gel helps to slow down the movement of food through the digestive tract. Slowing down the transit time of food through the digestive tract allows for better absorption of water and nutrients while lessening diarrhea and ostomy output.
  • Enjoy your soy! Tofu is made from soybeans and is a great plant protein option for a meatless meal. Choose tofu brands that are made with a calcium or magnesium coagulant. This adds a bonus of minerals to your diet. For people who worry that soy increases breast cancer risk, studies show that having some soy as part of a healthy diet does not increase cancer risk.
