  • The Perfect Peach: The season for peaches is short in Ontario, the best being picked from July to early September. Here are some tips to tell if you're buying sweet, ripe peaches:

  1. Color: Peach varieties will differ in colour, but red and deep orange hues are a good sign. If you see green it was likely picked too early.
  2. Touch: Sweet ripe peaches shouldn't be too hard and should actually give a little when gently squeezed.
  3. Smell: Ripe peaches should release a very fragrant peachy smell
  4. Taste: Obviously the best test is to taste the peach. Ask your grocer or farmer if you can taste a slice before buying, that way you know exactly what kind of peach you're buying.
  • Even in the refrigerator, peaches will only keep for about a week. So once they start getting wrinkly be sure to cut them up and freeze right away.
