Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is the most common side effect felt by people with cancer and can also be the most stressful. CRF is when you feel physically, emotionally or mentally very tired because of your cancer or cancer treatment. What and when you eat and drink can help you feel less tired.
Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids can help you feel less tired. Aim to drink 8 cups (2 L) of fluid throughout the day. Fluids not only include water, but also milk, soy milk or almond milk, soup, smoothies and ice cream, which have higher amounts of fat and protein.
Remember that coffee, green or black tea, energy drinks and soda also count as fluids. These beverages contain caffeine, which may disrupt your sleep if you drink too much during the day.
