Lymphedema
is swelling, often in only one arm or leg, that occurs when fluid cannot
circulate properly and builds up in the tissues instead of being flushed out of
the body. It is a common side effect of cancer or its treatment.
·
Research
shows that there is no one specific food or diet to help reduce swelling from
lymphedema.
·
Along
with exercising regularly, self massage and compression garments, it is
important to have a balanced diet and make healthy food choices to maintain the
body’s overall fluid balance and weight.
·
Aim
to make half of your plate non-starchy vegetables, a quarter plate protein and
the other quarter quality carbohydrates from whole grains or legumes.
