  • Mindful eating is being present, moment by moment, for each sensation that happens during eating, such as chewing, tasting and swallowing. Choosing foods that you enjoy and that are nourishing and preparing healthy meals are also part of the process of eating mindfully.
  • There are even a number of research studies that support the use of mindful eating as a tool to help with weight loss and to support healthy eating habits for management of chronic diseases such as cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
  • As a first step to eat more mindfully, try to chew each bite 30 times and make your meal last 20 minutes. Then reflect on what that felt like.
