On June 6, 2011, ELLICSR hosted the 2nd annual National Cancer Survivors Day (NCSD).

This year the theme, Sharing Your Cancer Experience, celebrated survivors by asking them to share their personal stories. We approached the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC) who recently launched an unscripted video series about cancer, called “The Truth of It.” In this series, survivors candidly share the intimate details of their cancer journeys.

Here's a look back at the day's events:

Panel Discussion

The goal of the panel discussion was to create a comprehensive composite of a supportive cancer team that would typically be involved with a patient, especially the survivor.

  • Mary Ito is the host of CBC Radio’s Fresh Air Program.
  • Pat Gillespie has been a cancer survivor for many years now and has lost a sister to cancer.
  • Dr. Sarah Hales is a psychiatrist with Psychological Oncology and Palliative Care program at Princess Margaret.
  • Dr. Sarah Ferguson is a surgical and medical oncologist in the Gynecologic Cancer Clinic at Princess Margaret
  • Scott Secord: Scott Secord is a social worker and manager of the Clinical Survivorship Program.
